It was my honor to witness and document AnnaLise’s Bat Mitzvah aboard The Empress on the San Francisco Bay. AnnaLise, with her generous soul, entered adulthood with poise and an impressive depth of understanding for humanity, community and her Jewish faith. Rabbi Henry Shreibman guided her in this rite of passage. She was surrounded and supported by her warm, loving family, so full of pride.
We boarded “The Empress” in Sausalito at the Presidio Yacht Club, and toured the San Francisco Bay – its bridges and islands; ferries, sailboats and cargo ships; its rich history – while the rabbi led this Mitzvah service. The journey began in chilly fog…and then as the Mitzvah was initiated, the sun appeared. Glorious. We watched the sun set while the celebration grew.
