Valentine’s Day Wedding in San Francisco

Kaori and Larry were both living in Tokyo when they met. They found that they shared the experience of growing up with a cultural background not native to the countries they grew up in: Larry is of Chinese descent and grew up in America, and Kaori of mainly Korean descent and grew up in Japan. They followed Japanese protocol in steps toward becoming a couple and eventually became engaged. They moved to San Francisco when Larry enrolled in an MBA program, and planned a wedding for Valentine’s Day at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church with the reception at Burritt Room + Tavern. Kaori’s family and many of their friends made the trip all the way from Japan to attend the wedding.

Kaori’s DIY touches included the seat assignments and welcome board. The mood was joyful and sincere with tears and laughter and blessings on the couple from all around. It was a beautiful occasion and a very special gathering.

Currently, the couple lives in the Bay Area. Kaori is enrolled in a cosmetology program to become a licensed hairstylist (as she was in Japan). Larry is studying for his MBA classes while at the same time working part-time as a math and English tutor for high school students.
